FAVORITE

I chose this to be my favorite picture because it's obvious to see that this is a enviromental potrait because the astronaut is in an enviroment where you would picture one to be... which is space. I thougth it was cool that they
got a photo of this astronaut in space. Also, the lighting of the photo is pretty cool and the reflection of his helmet looks cool and shows his/her surroundings.

Magazine Cover Intro P1

1. The magazine cover should be efficient, fast, and easy to scan. The viewer should know what is going on.
2. If the topic is an advertisement or something you should make the cover worth the investment of money and time for the viewer.
3. When making the cover, you should make it have something that grabs the viewers attention. Make them want to read it or look at it.
4. When making the cover, you should make it interesting that keeps the viewer not bored and keep reading or looking at it.
5. When finished with your cover, make sure it is neat and visible. Don't make it too big or too small.

Lytro Warm-Up

1.What did you see happen when you clicked on the photo?
It focused on whatever I clicked on.

2. How does this new camera work?
I'm guessing it is touch to focus. So whatever you touch it becomes focused.

3. What do you think a photographer would have to know about to take this kind of photo (remember its a point-and-shoot, so its full manual mode, what do you need to know about)
I think they will have to know what they want to focus on and make sure the shutter speeds are right so that it will come out clear and not blurry.

4. Is it worth the money?
I feel it is worth the money, it's a creative invention and can make a normal photo into a really good photo.

Rules of Photography Part II

Rule Of Thirds

Balancing Elements

Leading Lines

Symmetry & Patterns (Repetition)

Viewpoint

Background

Create Depth

Framing

Cropping

Mergers & Avoiding Them

1st Tip
The settings in which you make pictures of people are important because they add to the viewer's understanding of your subject. The room in which a person lives or works, their house, the city street they walk, the place in which they seek relaxation—whatever it is, the setting provides information about people and tells us something about their lives. Seek balance between subject and environment. Include enough of the setting to aid your image, but not so much that the subject is lost in it.

2nd Tip
Use your imagination! A self-portrait can reveal a lot about you, by including props and even other people that are meaningful in your life. If you've never attempted to shoot a self-portrait, expand your creative horizons and give it a try.

ENVIROMENTAL PORTRAIT

I chose this photo because I like the angle and position of the camera. Also, the
way the colors are. It gives the photo a warm feeling and I like it.

I chose this photo because like above, I like the way the camera
is postitioned and angled. It makes the picture look cool.

PHOTOGRAPHY SELF PORTRAIT

I chose this photo because I think it's cool how it seems like the frame
the guys is holding goes on forever. It makes the viewer really examine
the photo.

I chose this photo because it looks cool how the focused part of the
picture is the man upside down. I thought it was pretty creative.

Next class when we go out shooting these types of pictures, I plan on taking a self portrait because I want to
be creative with it and make it describe me. I plan on shooting somewhere outside or possibly near a staircase. Not too sure. Also, to make it successful, I will adjust the settings on the camera. Such as the f-stop, shutterspeed, and ISO to where everything looks good and also focused.

Portraits and Self Portraits

SELF POTRAIT.

This was my favorite self portrait photo because it's cool how
it seems the photo she is holding looks like the photo being taken.
I thought it was pretty creative and gives the viewer sometime to
actually look at the photo and admire every detail.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTO.

This is a pretty good photo because it shows the main object of
the photo, which is the guy sitting down. Also, the leaves make the
picture look more cool.

To me, I would want to take a self potrait, because I feel taking profesional photos you would have to be a certain way, when self potraits you can pretty much do whatever and be yourself. So when we go out to shoot, I would probably feel more comfortable doing a self potrait.

LANDSCAPES SHORTLIST :

I chose this photo because I like how the mist or fog in the back
give the picture an eerie tone. The colorful leaves on the ground
also make the picture look more colorful and adds effect.

TRAVEL SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because I like the fisheye effect and
also how the photo captures the busy area of Times Square, NY.

FASHION SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because I like how the shadow casted behind
the woman appears. It gives the photo a cool effect.

FAMILY & FRIENDS SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because the photo shows how these kids are
entertaining themselfs. It shows that the friends or brothers.. that
they are having fun.

PORTRAITS SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because I thought it was a pretty cool idea
to get the wave splash in from behind the boy.

DOCUMENTARY SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because it looked cool and shows how
deep the cave goes. Also, how it can be hard to climb it.

GARDEN & PLANTS SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because it seems as if the flower is like an
umbrella for the bug. Pretty creative photo.

WILDLIFE SHORTLIST:

I chose this photo because the scenery around the animal looked
cool and shows the enviroment it lives in. I also noticed that this
picture is using the rule of thirds.

CREATIVE LICENCE SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because when I first saw it I was confused and
my mind was trying to figure out what it was. Then when I saw the person
I was like whoa, that's cool because it seems as if she is going into heaven or something.

ACTION & MOVEMENT SHORTLIST:

I chose this picture because the way the mortocycle front is focused
and the rest is blurred and gives the photo the feeling of how fast the mortocycle
is going.

Ethics in Fashion Photography

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully)
Her eyebrows were done, her jaw was made more skinnier, her eyes were made bigger.

2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
I feel it could work both ways because when they change a persons appearance like this to sale a product it will get the woman that are insecure and they would want to look like that. They feel that if they buy the product it will soon get them to look like that. I also feel that it is wrong because people that use this product will not come out to look like that in the end. It's false advertisement.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Somewhat, I mean if they just used the girl on how she normally looked without all the makeup and photo editing, that they would not be able to sale as much products as they wish. As for, giving the woman a complete makeover and editing her appearance can sale the product more.

4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
I feel that fixing up the womans hair, adding make up, and all that other stuff to her face is okay. But, taking the photo into photoshop and making the woman more skinnier and changing up her appearance to where you can not even recognize that it is the same woman is not ok.

5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
To me, fashion photography is taking the photos you take of like models and editing them greatly like making them skinnier and clearer skin. When photojournalism is more of like a real world thing and with little tiny edits because they give the facts about what the picture is showing.

6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
It relates to reality because it shows what real life people are doing. But in one, more of the object is being editied and doesn't really make it that realistic.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

This post was basically explaining that some manupilation can be bad and cause some photo editers to lose their jobs. It gave some examples of editors that manupilated or cropped something out and how it effected the public and for them to lose their job.
This type of photo edititing is unethical because it's false and gives the people looking at the pictures wrong opinions and make them think that something that never happened... happened. I can see how a little editing of a photo in photoshop can be good, but manupilation is unethical.

I feel this photo is the most unehical because the thought of adding a black student in the crowd to show 'diversity' at their school was wrong. Diallo Shabazz (the black student) was not there at the scene of this photo but the photo but the photo editors put him in the picture because the picture was filled with just white students and they wanted to show the school was not just white.

I feel this photo is the least unethical because when I first saw this, I did not realize that the pyramids were moved closer together to make the picture looks better on the vertical cover. I'm sure not alot of people are going to notice that there is a difference unless they really pay attention to that kind of stuff. But this photo doesn't really effect anybody, just the placement of the pyramids.

National Geographic

The reason I chose this photo to be my favorite was because I like how the sea lions are just chilling and the
sun in the background coming through the water really looks cool. The placement of everything in this photo, to me, is really good and just makes the sea lions look pretty cool. I also like how it seems the sea lions are the only things in underwater, if you look behind them.. there is nothing but sand and water.

I would take this photo to a photo contest because it is just really cool with everything that is happening from the ground to the sky.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1.
If I got the oportunity to visit one of these amusement parks I would choose the one showing the roller coaster in the first link, on the 2nd page, 4th one down. I would choose that park because it looks really abandoned and is like in the middle of a forrest. Also, the rust on the tracks makes it look even older. If i visited this park I would definetly have to walk around and take some pretty cool pictures of the roller coaster.

2.

3.
- Abandoned school busses
- Old bridges
- Small old western towns
- Deserted houses
- Abandoned toilets

4.

5.
I feel finding these objects would be fun because you would see stuff that you normally don't think or see would be there. For example, why would a bus be in the middle of a forrest? .. I just think, that stuff like that would be fun to see and document on camera. I also like the places because they are like in the middle of no where and you don't expect to see stuff like that in those places.

6.
I'm sure if it's in the middle of a forrest we would need like our camera equipment and snacks just in case we get hungry or something. We would need a map just incase we get lost or want to find the spot. Also, if it is on someones property we will possibly need the owner's permission to go on their land and take photos. Finally, we wouldn't want to change anything or mess anything up of the spot of our object so we would just take the picture and leave the area.

FUNNY CAPTIONS

Snowball, a stray cat left out in the busy world decided to walk along the path of a busy street and ran in the middle not knowing where he was going, he was struck by a moving car going about 40mph. About 10 minutes later Snowball was picked up and thrown to the side of the road and the pedestrian placed a cardboard sign that read "FREE CAT"

Stacy has a recently come down with a really bad flu and is spending alot of money on tissues and doesn't know how to stop her nose from being stuffy. One morning she woke up with a great idea and decided to construct a helmet type thing that is like a toilet paper roll but just on her head. So where ever she is she will always have something to blow her nose in.

Tim is running late to work and his car is out of gas. He walked into his garage and found a scooter and a giant fan. With no other choice, he decided to make a transporting scooter that increased speeds when the fan was on. He soon made it to work only 10 minutes late.

Cool Video

The video was pretty good but maybe they can get more action shots and have a more sharper camera because some parts were kinda blurry. Also, Include more of the student fans in the bleachers so they feel more involved in the video. Finally, the maker could use a tri pod of some sort to make it more stable because it was a little shakey.

Instagram

1. What theme that we could take here at school could we do a series of these panels to place around the school?
Maybe we could make a mural that expresses what this school is all about. When people think about Akins High School, what first comes to mind and put it in a picture. One big mural would express why we love this school and what makes it Akins.
2. Should we use phones only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people that don't have camera phones?
I think it would be more artistic and different if it were with camera phones because not many people make a mural with just pictures from their phone. But, we may have to use regular cameras because people don't have a camera phone.

3. Where would you want to put the mural on campus?Maybe somewhere in the courtyard to where everyone who walks by can see it and admire it. If not there, then possibly somewhere in the front of the school to where visitors can see it.

HDR Photography

1. What do you have to do on the camera to make this type of photo?
Any camera that allows manual over or under exposure of a photo can make this type of photo. Some cameras have an auto exposure bracketing (AEB) feature with a far greater dynamic range than others.

2. Look up a Canon T3 on google and tell me if it has the ability to shoot bracketed photos? Yes, it is able to shoot bracketed photos (+/-3 levels in single level increments 3 bracketed images per shutter release.)

3. Is there a place on campus we could take a series of photos like this?
Possibly the courtyard.

4. Do a google image search for HDR photos and find your favorite, post it on your blog, tell me why you picked that photo and then tell me what techniques (rules of photography) the photographer used.

I chose this photo because I liked the way the sky looked
and the sun either setting or rising. It really captured my eye when I was
looking through all the pictures. The techniques the photographer used
was balance because you can tell just by looking at the photo.

Fixed Photo Shoot Post Shoot Reflection:

1. What did you learn about the camera when you took these photos?
I learned more about the F-Stop and ISO settings and how they work together. Also, the shutter speed.

2. What do you notice about all the photos and the way they look? They vary in brightness depending on their shutter speed and F-Stop. The slower the shutter speed.. the brighter they are. They go from really bright to dark.

3. Can you tell the difference between each ISO? Explain how.
Yes, the higher the ISO and when we were outside the brighter they were because the setting is telling the camera that it needs more light and we are already outside so it will cause it to be bright.

4. What does this tell you about ISOs and what it does when you change it when you take pictures?
Like I said above, The ISO is telling the camera how much more light to give in into the lense and being outside when it is sunny with a high ISO will cause the camera to make the picture more bright.

5. What about focus? Can you see a difference in the photos? Tell me what differences and similarities you see.
After looking through all of them.. the focus doesn't really change throughout the pictures. They all are focused on a specific subject.

ISO : 400
Shutter Speed: 1/500
F-stop: F8.0
Distance: ?
Focal Length: Around 20mm
Lighting: Outdoors. Partly Cloudy
7. What do you need to concentrate on when you go out to shoot next time when you have to shoot in Manual setting?
I need to focus on the F-Stop and Shutter speed setting and set them to the correct number for a good picture.

Great Black & White Photography Part 3

1.) What first caught your eye while looking at your photographers photos? Is there something in particular about their photos that made you want to choose them?
The watch of the persons wrist caught my eye and how behind his hand is a long road leading up to what looks like a capital. I chose it because to me it just seems cool and is very creative.

2.) Look at those 2 photos you posted last time. Use your five senses to tell me more about those photos. Answer them on your blog.
Watch by Josef Koudelka
I see a persons watch with a not so busy road behind it.
I smell the aroma of cars and buildings passing by.
I hear cars passing and the wind blowing the leaves in the trees.
I taste the breeze that enters my mouth.
I feel the wind and the weather to me seems a little cold since the person has a jacket on and it is cloudy.

Down To The Factory by Robert Doisneau
I see a man walking down a hill to a nearby factory.
I smell the fumes and smoke from the factory's smoke stack.
I hear machines from the factory running.
I taste the oil or machinery that the wind blows from the factory torwards me.
I feel the wind as it blows over me.

3.) Finally, what would you like to create to show the world your great photographer. Ideas include, posters, power points, a blog, etc. You tell me what you would like to create so we can come up with a plan to share your thoughts and ideas about your photographer with your classmates and with the rest of the school.
To show my great photographer, I would most likely create a power point with some of his work and explain why the pictures are cool to me. Also, facts about the photographer.

Camera Sim

I did pretty well on the Image Sorter - Depth of Field test.. I found it east to find out which of the images were either in focus on a subject. or the whole image was focused.
I also did pretty well on the Image Sorter - Shutter Speed and Motion but not as good as the first test over Depth of Field.
I do understand Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO better now, I definetly have learned more about ISO because I've seen the setting on my camera but wasn't really sure how many ways i could use it. So I'm glad I learned more about the camera settings.

Sim Camera

F4 looks best at 1/125 sec
F5.6 looks best at 1/60 sec
F8 looks best at 1/125 sec
F11 looks best at 1/60 sec
F16 looks best at 1/30 sec
F22 looks best at 1/15 sec

On every one, the background gets blurry and the object, which would be the couple gets focused
and clear. The lighting also changes and makes the image look better.

ISO

ISO 200

ISO 6400

1. What are the advantages of shoot at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or a night football game?
It will be easier to capture the moving objects of the players in action.

2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO?
If you have your camera mounted on a tripod or sitting on a flat surface. Your camera will most likely need more time to capture the scene and anything that is moving is probably going to look like a ghost.

3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO?
I set my ISO to a higher number to be able to freeze motion.

4. At the camera near you, please tell me what ISO's are available on your camera?
100-6400

Aperture Priority - You can change the aperature manualy but the camera changes the shutter speed automaticly.
Manual - You can change both aperature and shutter speed by hand.

3.
BULB - 1/4000

Aperture

Aperture Setting : F2.8

Aperture Setting : F16

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?
Our eyes. (Cornea, Iris, Pupil)

2. The smaller the Aperture _ the larger f-stop _, the higher the Aperture _the smaller f-stop_.

3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field?
Depth of Field to me is how clear and focused an object is and also how blurry the background behind the object is.

4. With the camera near you - tell me the F stops available on the lens currently attached.
3.5-5.6

Africa: Black and White

After watching the power point, it makes me want to travel the world to these places and experience how cool it would be to see those animals and their enviroment they live in.

My favorite photo would be the one where the cheetah is in the tree and the tree seems to be secluted. As the cheetah looks among it's habitat. I also like how most of the pictures are in like a sepia/old fashion looking tone that gives it a cool little feeling.

Nick Brandt:
- Some say he may be using Canon with a a 35, 44, 104 and 200 mm lenses.

- He wanted to somehow capture his passion for animals visually, and it was when he visited East Africa
that he could actually do it.
-  Brandt wants his images to achieve two things, to be an elegy to a world that is tragically vanishing and to make people see what beauty is disappearing.
- "There’s something about the animals here – their mythic, mythological, iconic quality."

Academic Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you? I think the most challenging one was attempting to take a picture of 'balance' but after looking at my picture i took, i think i did pretty good.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly. I didn't really have any technical problems, because like i said before i have one of these cameras of my own at my house and i know how to work with them.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography? I would possibly use more examples of the 6 components and try to put them in my photography more often.
4. What things would you do the same?
I would most likely try to take the same pictures that look similar because i feel i got the shots i needed.

5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve? The easiest would have to be either lines or simplicity since they're so simple.

6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?I think the hardest would have to be either balance or avoiding mergers.
7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?Balance, and possibly i can research more on balance that way i know more about it.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

6 Components.

SIMPLICITY

I feel i followed the rule well, the subject would be the
sign saying "New Tech High" and if people were to
look at this photo, it would be easy enough to say that the subject
is the sign.
RULE OF THIRDS

I feel i followed the rule very well in this photo, the subject
would be the clock on the wall. And if people were to
look at this photo and knew what the rule of thirds
was, they could easyily say that the clock was the subject.
FRAMING

This photo i feel i got the point of 'framing' down, the
subject would be the tree and the poles from the
staircase are 'framing' a little box around the tree
and it's surroundings. If a person were to look at this
I'm sure they could conclude that the poles form a frame
around the tree.
                                     AVOIDING MERGERS

This would be an example of an 'avoiding merger' because
the pole behind the character seems to be coming out from
behind him, as if it were merged in with him.
LINES

This photo shows the example of lines great because
it shows the detail of the stairs and has plenty of lines
on them. If someone were to look at this,
it would be obvious that they would see a lot
of lines.

BALANCE

I feel this photo is balanced because it kinda forms
a shape on the ceiling, and also the lockers on both
sides of the hall. If someone were to look at this picture
in my opinion it may take awhile for them to conclude something.
